Moira Blackburn Cross Stitch: Elizabeth Oliver Sampler
This design is from an original sampler in the archives of York City Museum signed and dated by Elizabeth Oliver, aged 13 years, 1847. The sampler was worked on 42 count linen.
The verse 'The Hour of Prayer' reads "Hail, peaceful hour supremely blest. Amid the hours of earthly care, the hour that yields the spirit rest. That sacred hour, the hour of prayer. And when my hours of prayer are past, oh, may I leave these Sabbeth days to find eternity at last. A never ending hour of praise.
The building is presumed to be a Quaker Orphanage.
